episode ii: love and its consequences

featuring new Patrick Wolf, covers of Joy Division and David Lynch tunes, and of course a tune from Mr. Nomi.

tune in to http://www.bsrlive.com at 3 PM eastern time on 2/14/11 for episode ii!

(if you can’t get the stream to work on the website, try downloading it and playing it through itunes)

1. Love Will Tear Us Apart - Evelyn Evelyn

a Joy Division cover by the conjoined twins Evelyn and Evelyn who comprise the aptly named band Evelyn Evelyn.

2. Afraid - Nico

off her 1970 solo album “Desertshore;” melancholy piano, distant strings and nico’s smokey, blunt voice make for a particularly poignant if not devastating song

3. Truce - the Dresden Dolls

from their self-titled album; post-war negotiations as a metaphor for post-break-up arrangements; plus a shout-out to our own Providence!

4. Mysteries of Love - Antony and the Johnsons

a cover of the Angelo Badalamenti/David Lynch track originally sung by Julee Cruise for the film Blue Velvet. Antony fills each word with so much energy and emotion

5. Buzz Saw - Xiu Xiu

a rhythmically surprising and extremely melancholy song with some of the most cryptic lyrics

6. Housekeeper - Faun Fables

a haunting tune from their new album “Light of a Vaster Dark”

7. When a Man Loves a Woman - Karen Dalton

one of the strangest, most beautiful voices; from her 1971 album “In My Own Time;” her voice, or perhaps the fact that she died so young, makes this song much sadder and darker than the original

8. Babooshka - Kate Bush

from “Never For Ever;” a song-story about a paranoid wife testing her husband’s fidelity; with a chorus that’s a little too fun to sing along with

9. Parades Go By - the Magnetic Fields

one of Stephin Merritt’s “69 Love Songs;” according to him it’s about vampires….

10. 100 Other Lovers - DeVotchKa

from their upcoming album “100 Lovers” due out March 1st

11. I Feel Love - Klaus Nomi

a live cover of Donna Summer’s disco hit, Nomified

12. The City - Patrick Wolf

an infectiously happy, joyous song from the once gloomy, dreary Wolf; off the upcoming album Lupercalia due out in May!
